The resource spotlight for August is an office software suite called OpenOffice. It is available for both Mac & PC. Go to http://www.openoffice.org/download/index.html to download the software. Select your operating system from the dropdown menu. Then click download.
A download file will start. Open the file and follow the instructions to install the software. Once installed, open OpenOffice. A welcome screen will appear. You have a few different options to choose from. There are different types of files you can create, just like in Micosoft Office.
Comparing OpenOffice to Microsoft Office, Writer is like Word. Spreadsheet is like Excel. Presentation is like PowerPoint. The tools in each of the different applications are very similar to Microsoft Office. Both software types can do the same thing, they just might be located in different locations.
Once you start creating documents and using it frequently, you’ll understand where everything is. Make sure to come back next month to see another resource spotlight. Next month is about a music!
